Gale Adcock spent 30 years as a nurse practitioner, so she knows first hand what happens when people can’t get care.

She brings decades of health care experience

Adcock worked as a nurse practitioner for more than 30 years and was the first nurse elected to the North Carolina Senate. She has led the NC Nurses Association and the NC Center for Nursing, and served on the NC Board of Nursing. Source.

She has been a longtime champion of Medicaid

Since entering the state legislature in 2014, Adcock advocated for expanding Medicaid. In 2023, that effort culminated in the passage of Medicaid expansion, opening the door to coverage for more than 600,000 North Carolinians (H76). Source

She works to expand access to care

In 2019, Adcock sponsored the bipartisan SAVE Act, which would remove outdated regulations that prevent highly trained nurses from practicing to the full extent of their education and training, helping to improve access and lower costs (H185). Source

She is working to improve access to dental care

Adcock is a co-primary sponsor of S 805, which would increase Medicaid dental reimbursement rates. Medicaid rates have not meaningfully increased since 2008, and only about 45% of dentists accept Medicaid patients. This lack of services means children and families, especially in our rural communities, don’t have the oral health care they need to live healthy lives. Source.

She has a reputation for working across party lines

Adcock is a commonsense leader who works across the aisle to advance policy solutions to ensure all North Carolinians can thrive. Source
